ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED DURING THE SESSION (2024-25)

 

1.     International Webinar on “Role of Science in tackling challenges”

Department of Science of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar, hosted an insightful International Webinar on "The Role of Science in Understanding and Managing Challenges in Day-to-Day Business Life for Stress Reduction." Under the guidance of the Intuition’s Innovation Council on 16 August 2024. The event brought together experts from various fields, including psychology, neuroscience, and organizational behavior, to explore how scientific principles can be applied to the everyday challenges faced in the business world. The webinar provided a platform for students, faculty, and professionals to engage in discussions about the latest research and practical strategies for managing stress in the workplace

2.     Science Exhibition on Space Day

Date: 23 August 2024

On account of Space Day, Science exhibition was organized in which students of B.Sc (Non-Med.) & (Computer Science) presented various posters and models based on Science. Some of them collected the newspaper clippings related to space. They showed their innovation and creativity with the help of this activity. 

3.     Showing a documentary on National Forest Week in collaboration with Eco Club

Date : 27 September 2024

On account of National Forest Week , Department of Science in collaboration with Eco Club shown a documentary to students highlighting the importance of Natural Vegetation and Wildlife. It reminds us how forests are crucial for all of us. Such activities offers a platform to inspire action, engage communities and advocate for  the responsible use of this natural resource.

4.     Three days Workshop on “ Scentful Skills : Turning floral waste into sustainable creation” in collaboration with Eco Club, Incubation cell and IIC. 

Date : 25-27 November 2024

Department of Science in collaboration with IIC, Eco Club and Incubation Cell organized three days workshop in which the collected floral waste was dried and then grindede into a fine powder on the second day. On third day, of the workshop the powder is mixed with camphor, ghee and essence and then binded in the form of dhoop which is dried and packed at last for sale.

5.     Participation of students in Quiz competition on National Wetland Day.

Date: 27 January 2025

To raise awareness regarding about the importance of wetlands every year 2nd February is celebrated as World Wetlands Day. Students of B.Sc(Non-Med.) participated in Quiz Competition , under the Environmental Education Programme (EEP) of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change(MOEF & CC) Govt. of India and State Nodal Agency, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology. This year’s campaign focuses on the theme “Protecting Wetlands for our Common future”.

 

6.      On account of National Science Day, One Day Workshop on Science to Enterpreneur and Start-Up: Alum Innovation and Demonstration

Date: 28 February 2025

 

 

On the occasion of National Science Day, Department of Science in collaboration with IIC organizedOne Day Workshop on Science to Enterpreneur and Start-Up: Alum Innovation and Demonstration, in which the waste aluminium foil was collected and transformed it into Potassium Aluminium Sulphate commonly known as Alum. The process involved dissolving Aluminium foil in Potassium hydroxide solution followed by addition of sulphuric acid to precipitate alum crystals. The event concluded with applications of science in everyday life and how small scale experiments can foster curiosity and innovation.

 

7.     One day Workshop on “Biogas Generation from Organic Waste: A Sustainable Energy Solution”

To explore the potential of organic waste for sustainable energy generation. Eco Club in collaboration with Department of Science , organized One day Workshop on “Biogas Generation from Organic Waste: ASustainable Energy Solution” . Dr. Phutela provided insightful sessions on biogas technology, plant technology and practical applications. She gave demonstration on small scale biogas plant model installed in college campus. Many attendees expressed interest in implementing biogas solutions at household.

 

 

 

 

 

8.     Inter Class Quiz Competition on Innovation, Enterpreneurship and Start-Up based on General Science under the guidance of IIC

Date : 2 April 2025

Inter Class Quiz Competition on Innovation, Enterpreneurship and Start-Up based on General Science organized by Department of Science under the guidance of IIC, to promote innovation among them and guide them that how technology could assist start-ups. The aim of the activity was to encourage critical thinking and enhance understanding of science in terms of innovation. 

 

 

9.     Celebration of World Intellectual Property Rights Day under the guidance of IIC

World Intellectual Property Rights Day is celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of intellectual property in fostering innovation and creativity. The event aimed to enlighten students and faculty about the significance of protecting intellectual property such as patents, copyrights,trademarksand trade secrets.Dr. Lovely elaborated on the procedure of filing patents, the benefit of IP protection and the current IPR trends in India and globally.

 

 

 

 

10.  Celebration of World Creativity and Innovation Day under the guidance of IIC

Date : 11 April 2025

World Creativity and Innovation Day served as powerful reminder of how creative thinking and innovative solutions are key to addressing global challenges and fostering a brighter future. On this day, a special talk was delivered by Mrs. Ravinder Kaur from Department of Chemistry , who spoke about the role of creativity by explaining the detailed procedure of creating Potash Alum from waste Aluminium foil.

 

11.  One Day Workshop on “World Intellectual Property Day”

On April 26, 2025, PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, proudly celebrated World Intellectual Property Day under the theme “IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP.” The event was jointly organized by the Department of Science in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of the college. The celebration aimed to educate students about the critical role of Intellectual Property (IP) rights in the music industry, and to highlight how these rights encourage creativity and innovation while protecting the efforts of creators. The event saw active participation from students, faculty, and invited guests, creating an enriching atmosphere of learning, creativity, and awareness.

The celebration of World Intellectual Property Day 2025 at PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, proved to be a dynamic and educational event. It not only raised awareness about the importance of intellectual property rights but also motivated students to appreciate, protect, and promote creativity and innovation, especially in the music industry.

12.  “National Technology Day: Celebrating Innovation and Excellence”

Prem Chand Markanda SD College for Women, Jalandhar, celebrated National Technology Day on May 11 with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of academic purpose. The event was organized around the national theme for the year, “Celebrating Innovation and Excellence,” and served as a vibrant platform to highlight India’s technological achievements while encouraging young women to engage actively in scientific and technological pursuits.

Inter College Science Competition 4th Nov,2016

The students of B.Sc(Non-Med) participated in Inter College Science competition organized by Lyallpur Khalsa College , jalandhar on 04-11-2016. Students participated in various events like Scientific Rangoli, Poster Presentation etc and got consolation prizes in both events.




Historical Trip 6th Nov,2016

 C.V. Raman Society of Department of Science PCM S.D. College For Women organized a historical trip to Virasat-E-Khalsa , Shri Anandpur Sahib on 06-11-2016.

students of B.Sc(Non-Med) visited Virasat-E-Khalsa and Gurudwara Shri Anandpur Sahib ji.




National Science Day  28th  Feb,2017

C.V. Raman Society of Science of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar celebrated National Science Day on 28th  Feb,2017. Inter class competition was organized by the department of science. The students of B.Sc(Non-Med) and B.Sc(computer science) participated in various events like Extempore (scientific speaking), Science Quiz , Science on Stage Dance , Scientific Rangoli and Science toon making on the topics like Environmental issues , Save Mother Earth , Role of basic science in daily life etc. Principal, Dr. Kiran Arora congratulated the prize winners and the participants for their hard work. Mrs. Anuradha (Dept of Chemistry) was the event coordinator and Ms. Pinki Sihag (Chemistry dept), Ms. Kirandeep Kaur (Physics dept) and Ms. Sushma (Physics dept) were the members of organizing committee.




POSTER PRESENTATION COMPETITION 18th Nov. 2017

Department of Chemistry of PCM SD College for women, Jalandhar organizes ‘Poster Presentation Competition’-

C.V. Raman Society of Department of Chemistry conducted a ‘Poster Presentation Competition’ for students of B.Sc (Non-Medical), B.Sc (Computer Science) in the seminar hall. The aim of the competition was to enhance presentation and language skills among students and teach them to articulate while expressing their thoughts and ideas. Students of different classes exchanged their concepts and data efficiently with their audience using a combination of poster and oral presentation on various topics such as: Global Warming, Save Mother Earth and Environmental Pollution. The competition aimed at exhibiting our students’ in-depth subject knowledge and presentation expertise. The students performed with utmost enthusiasm. They proved their presentation skills through their adaptability in their topics and their talent with their excellent performance.





Essay Writing Competition 23rd Oct. 2021

CV RAMAN SOCIETY of Chemistry Department of PCM SD college for women organized an Essay Writing Competition on 23rd October 2021 in the college premises. Undergraduate students and students from collegiate block participated in the competition. As many as 30 students of science stream presented their thoughts and writing skills on emerging science topics such as Why Chemistry Matters, Plastics in Environment, CFCs and the environment, How chemistry brings alterations to the world and Green House Effect.

Blossom and Bhavika from 11th (Non-Med) were declared first prize, henna (B.Sc sem 1) and Sakshi kushwaha (B.Sc sem 5) got 2nd prize for their essay while Manpreet kaur (B.Sc sem 1) and Geetika sharma (11th) won 3rd prize.

Principal, Dr. Mrs. Pooja Prashar congratulate the prize winners and motivated the students to further participate in extracurricular activities.




 National Chemistry Week 30th Oct. 2021


 CV Raman Society of Chemistry Department celebrated National Chemistry Week in the last week of October 2021. The department organized a Science Talk Competition on 30thOctober 2021 in seminar hall for students of B.Sc (Non Medical), B.Sc (C.Sc), 10+1 and 10+2. The aim of the competition was to hone public speaking skills of the students and teach them to be articulate while expressing their thoughts and opinions. The speakers of different classes spoke eloquently on topics such as: Why Chemistry Matters, Kitchen Chemistry, Role of Chemistry in daily life, Environment and CFCs and Acid rain. This event aims at showcasing our students expertise in the speaking skills. The students performed with great enthusiasm and confidence. They proved their knowledge through the versatility in their topics and their talent with their excellent performance. The winners of competition are:

Department of Chemistry of PCM SD College for women, Jalandhar organizes ‘Poster Presentation Competition’-

C.V. Raman Society of Department of Chemistry conducted a ‘Poster Presentation Competition’ for students of B.Sc (Non-Medical), B.Sc (Computer Science) in the seminar hall. They proved their presentation skills through their adaptability in their topics and their talent with their excellent performance.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY 28th Feb, 2023

CV Raman Society of Chemistry Department of PCM SD College for Women celebrated ‘National Science Day’ on 28th Feb in collaboration with Department of Physics. Department organized Extempore for Undergraduate Students. Students of B.Sc(non-med) and B.Sc(comp-sci) enthusiastically participated in this competition. Students express their thoughts, opinions and ideas. Students were adjudged on the basis of their thoughts, opinions, ideas and presentation skills.

Vineet from B.Sc(comp-sci) was declared 1st prize , Parineeta from B.Sc(comp-sci) got 2nd prize while Santoshi from B.Sc(non-med) and Ritika from B.Sc(comp-sci) got 3rd prize.

Principal, Dr Pooja Prashar congratulated the Prize winners and motivated the students to further participate in extra-curricular activities.

 






EARTH DAY 22nd april,2023


Green audit and environment cell in collaboration with Department of Chemistry and Department of Physics of PCM SD college for women organized best out of waste competition on the occasion of earth day 22 april,2023. In this activity students of B.Sc( non-med) & B.Sc(computer science) of semester 4 participated. They made beautiful pieces of art from scratch.

World Ozone Day(20 September 2023)

On the occasion of "World Ozone Day " , Chemistry Department of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar  organized PPT and Poster presentation on the topic of preservation of Ozone layer. It was organized to create awareness among students for the protection of Ozone layer. Blossom from B.sc (Non-med.) Sem1 bagged 1st position. Kalpana and Ritika got second position. Aradhna of B.sc (non-med.)sem3rd got 3rd position.

In Poster presentation,  Jasleen Kaur from B.sc (Non-Med.) Sem1st got 1st position. Nisha and Ziya from B.sc (Non Med.) Sem 5th got 2nd and 3rd position respectively.





National Science Day(28 February 2024)

CV Raman Society of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar celebrated "National Science Day " under IIC(Institution's Innovation Cell) to commemorate invention of "Raman Effect" by an Indian physicist Dr.CV Raman. Students from B.Sc(Non-Med.,Computer Science) participated in Poster Presentation and Model Demonstration. The objective of the event was to build scientific temperament, innovation and creativity among students. Bhavika,Sandesh Preeti, Nisha ranked first,second and third in Model Demonstration. Ziya,Ritika and Jasleen were adjudged first, second and third in Poster Presentation Competition. In the end, Ms.Muskan Kalra from Department of Chemistry, gave brief description on National Science Day and encouraged the students to participate more in such activities.

                                                                 




Participation in ECO VIBES at HMV College Jalandhar(5 April 2024)

Students  from Department of Science, Fashion designing and Cosmetology participated in ‘Eco vibes’  an Intercollege competition competition organised by HMV college, Jalandhar on 5th April 2024 .Student of the different department participated in various events such as poster making ,slogan writing, rangoli making, face painting and innovative fashion dress. Students represent their views on environment through their innovative ideas.  Students learn about various methods to reutilize the waste material also get aware about various environmental issues and how to overcome these issues and recycled the used things.

Nisha (Bsc non medical) sem 6th participated in Poster making competition, Ziya ( Bsc non medical) 6th sem  participated in slogan writing, Manpreet ( Bsc non medical)and komal ( Bsc non medical) members 6th participated in Rangoli making competition.  Prachi ( P.G diploma in cosmetalogy) participated in face making her model was Riya. Anjali (Msc in F.D) and Aditi (Msc in F.D) took part in innovative fashion dress .

 




 

 Participation in National Science Day at Layallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar(20 March 2024)

Students from Department of Science participated in National Science Day held on 20 March 2024 at Layallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar. Various activities like Poster presentation, Rangoli making, Best out of waste, and powerpoint presentation were organized. Students from B.Sc (non-med.) and B.Sc(Comp. Sc.) participated actively. Nisha from B.Sc (non-med) got 2nd position in poster presentation.

 







Declamation Competition on World Water Day(22 March 2024)

In celebration of World Water Day, PCM SD College for Women's Eco Club and the Department of science collaborated to organize a declamation contest centered on water conservation. The event aimed to raise awareness and inspire action among students regarding the importance of preserving water resources. Participants delivered impassioned speeches highlighting the significance of responsible water usage, the impact of water scarcity, and innovative solutions for conservation. Through this initiative, the college community was encouraged to reflect on their role in safeguarding this precious resource. The contest underscored the commitment of PCM SD College for Women to environmental sustainability and education for a greener future.



                                                                          

 

One day National Workshop “Hands on Mathematics and Science by Dr.Jaswinder Singh(29 March 2024)

The "Hands-on Mathematics and Science" workshop, held on 29th March 2024 at PCM SD College For Women, Jalandhar aimed to revolutionize teaching practices by advocating for practical learning experiences. The workshop, led by Dr.  Jaswinder Singh, a renowned expert in math and science education, aimed to revolutionize teaching methodologies through practical learning experiences on the wheel. Educators and students attended to explore innovative strategies for integrating hands-on activities into math and science instruction. Dr. Singh guided participants through interactive sessions focusing on math activities, science experiments, and the integration of technology to enhance student engagement and understanding. Through collaborative discussions and demonstrations, participants gained valuable insights into effective teaching practices and pedagogical approaches. The workshop concluded with participants equipped with practical tools and strategies to create dynamic learning environments that promote critical thinking and inquiry-based learning in math and science classrooms. Dr. Singh's expertise and guidance catalyzed professional growth and inspired educators to embrace experiential learning in their teaching practices.

    



Trip to CSIR Mohali (8 April 2024)

Educational trip enhance the knowledge of the students and also broaden their outlook toeards the outside world. This year an educational trip to CSIR IMTECH Chandigarh was organized by Department of Science and Department of Mathematics of  PCM SD College for Women Jalandhar under the sincere guidiance of Madam Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar on 8 April 2024. 17 students accompanied with 3 faculty members joined the trip. Such activities  provide students with practical exposure to advanced scientific instruments and research facilities in field of Sciences.









Workshop on “Uttam Ahaar Uttam Vichar”(19 April 2024)

On 19April 2024, workshop on "Uttam Ahaar Uttam Vichar "  organised by Department of Science to promote the importance of good nutrition for holistic well being, including physical health, mental clarity and emotional balance. The workshop aimed to educate participants on making food choices and cultivating mindful eating habits.

Dr. Nitika Kapoor, Assistant Professor Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar presented strategies for incorporating more fruits, vegetables and grains into dietary meals. She presented a presentation on "Awareness Regarding Millets ". Participants had the opportunity to learn how to prepare nutritious diet .Uttam Ahaar 'good food',  Uttam Vichar 'good thoughts' within communities. Key components of Uttam Aahar include balanced diet, Nutrient density, Hydration etc. Around 40 students attended the workshop. By promoting good food and good thoughts, individuals and communities can achieve optimal health, happiness and quality of life. President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, other members of managing committee and Principal Dr.Pooja Prashar appreciated the Department of Science for organising such workshop on Uttam Ahaar Uttam Vichar as a guiding principle for personal and societal wellbeing.
